First Team Agent Helps Struggling Family Downsize Amidst Financial Hardship

When the company she worked for instituted a mass layoff, Marygie Gilbert found herself jobless and unable to keep up with her house payments. With foreclosure in sight, Marygie found a First Team® agent to help turn her world right-side up again.

This family’s short sale struggle is the subject of the newest video of the award-winning First Team “My Story” campaign.

Marygie’s life was exactly how she wanted it: She had a stable job and perfect credit. However, when the company she was working for laid her and 8,000 others off, she was thrown into a tailspin. She and her family loved their home and tried to stay in it as long as possible, but the payments were a struggle. When Marygie approached the lender that had her mortgage – the same company she had worked for – they refused to help.

Marygie and her family were devastated and confused. Unsure whether they should let the bank foreclose or have a short sale, Marygie reached out to First Team. Gloria O’Brien, a seasoned First Team agent, helped them decide to short sell, reassuring them despite stories of short sale buyers who often walked away after becoming frustrated with the process. Marygie was in constant contact with Gloria, who dealt with the lenders and staged many open houses. With Gloria’s help, Marygie had a bank-approved short sale within seven working days, a closed escrow in 30 days and a new rental home with lower monthly payments.

Marygie and her family have since begun to get their finances back on track, even saving up for another house one day, but she is grateful to her First Team agent for getting her through the worst of it.
